It is fire season in California and sadly huge fires in the west are making headlines with their destructive activity. The fire did not damage just any old redwood. I just got back from a trip to see the cinnamon-colored giants of Mountain Home Demonstration State Forest in the southern Sierra.

It was a real treat to explore a giant sequoia grove for the first time, especially when accompanied … Continued. Search for: Go.

Your post made my day. Sheryl - I should have said "the 5" near Capistrano which you can get to via the or the 5 - but we always take the to San Diego , as it spares us the traffic in downtown - it's rare that it's faster to go over to the 5 in downtown, where the ends.

Hi Sheryl R, I can give you on-the-spot information about the Oregon coast :. Washington -- does not go along the coast very much at all. It's somewhat inland for nearly all of it.

Redwood and Wildfire - Wikipedia

These are lovely but short sections. California -- goes along the ocean and then through the beautiful redwoods until you get south to about Leggett. At this point, if you want to stay on the ocean, you need to take Highway 1. If you continue on south of Leggett, you'll be inland in pleasant scenery until you get to San Francisco.

Wildfire threatens ancient redwood trees

You can then choose to remain on all the way south see previous posts or opt to take Highway 1 again. This section of Highway 1 is also extremely scenic and also very, very slow. I would encourage you to post in both the Washington and Oregon forums for more information about your route. Do you have your lodging booked? That's the great advantage of TripAdvisor. Just ask the folks who live in the areas you want to visit!

Tip: All of your saved places can be found here in My Trips. Using revelatory flashbacks and poetic asides, Hairston suggests such collective dreaming transforms people the same way herbal and psychological voodoo can. Using their mutual genius for period blues and bluegrass, Aidan and Redwood follow their dreams of self-reinvention along the same hazardous Blues Highway survived by Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith then transcended by Florence Mills and Josephine Baker. By the time this adventure ushers its characters into the pre-Code film industry, all that matters any more is transcendence: a physical and psychological transcendence of all obstacles to creative or social freedom.

Both exhilarated and frustrated by working in motion pictures, Redwood and Wildfire think films should destroy ignorance and prejudice—not merely entertain. The entire book shows how these two slowly gain the life knowledge and confidence they need to believe in liberation through art—and then to project that belief into the hearts and minds of a live audience.
